The fact that you want to get something permanent on your body that has no actual representation of anything to you other than the fact that it is perceived as 'Occult'. the fact that you are so far out of the loop on what those images might even be or where to look for them shows that you have literally no connection to the genre other than as some sort of trendy tryhard to look cool bullshit.

It reeks of desperation and is quite frankly cringeworthy.

I would say that you're trolling, but I actually know people in real life who do things like this. A girl on my Facebook was going to buy a shirt with hp Lovecraft and poe on the front, and was asking people on fb who 'this Lovecraft guy' was and if she should still get the shirt even though she had no idea who he was and hadn't read anything by Poe other than the telltale heart in the 7th grade

Hey retard, maybe you shouldn't be making an important life decision simply because you think a certain style looks cool.

Jesus how fucking stupid are you?

You know what? Scratch that. Go ahead, do it so everyone can laugh at you. The world needs more humor.

What should my decisions be based on, then? I don't have any hardships or important realizations of myself that I'd like to be made clear. Am I not allowed to want a tattoo because my life is not grandiose enough? What exactly am I missing?

this is one of the stupidest things I have seen in a long long time

regardless, check out: An Encyclopedic Outline of Masonic, Hermetic, Qabbalistic and Rosicrucian Symbolical Philosophy: Being an Interpretation of the Secret Teachings Concealed Within the Rituals, Allegories and Mysteries of All Ages by Manly Palmer Hall

and

The Hermetica

This is not light reading though, and I doubt your sorry ass will read either thing I suggested

Technically you should start with the Greeks but if not...

In the Morning of the Magician is a good overview of the mysticism, the occult and all kinds of conspiracies. It was very popular in the sixties with the nascent new age movement.

The Magical Revival by Kenneth Grant is another good look into the occult. Although its historiography is inaccurate and verges on hagiography, it nevertheless provides an accurate summation of the magickal philosophies of the main branches of modern western occultism (subsequent books are batshit crazy, however [the author theorizes that mixing fact with fiction allows it to better penetrate the subconscious or something similarly silly]).

From there you can probably work your way into some primary texts. Thelema, Theosophy, Anthrosophy, Alchemy, Tantra, Chaos Magick, Gnosticism, Goetia, so on and so forth.

If you care less about the ideas and more about the aesthetic then you might just jump into some books by the following publishers:

xoanon.co.uk
threehandspress.com
scarletimprint.com
primalcraft.com
weiserantiquarian.com
teitanpress.com

It is a thing but it's also true. Almost all western philosophy, including the esoteric and occult, traces its lineage back to ancient Greece. Countless secret societies consider themselves the inheritors of the Greek mystery schools and Platonic/Neoplatonic and Pythagorean ideas. Even Jewish and Christian occultism and mysticism is considered to be highly influenced by Greek thought. Modern occultism tends to look more toward the East and toward indigenous shamanic practices but the language used to talk about it still carries a heavy debt.

Yes

Also, OP. Going to sympathize with you because I'm just as dumb. But I did the same shit, except I ended up going through with it and it's one of my major regrets. Which isn't saying much, because I could say the same about most of my decisions, but still. Just some forewarning.

Do NOT, and I repeat, DO NOT start with Kenneth Grant. Entry level occult books:
-"The Tree of Life" and "A Garden of Pomengranates" by Israel Regardie.
-"The Mystical Qabalah" by Dion Fortune.
-"Dogme et Rituel de la Haute Magie" by Eliphas Levi.

like u said, the op seems not 2 kno what he wants, but in the context he is using the word, i dont htink it refers to a genre of fict rather a field of study , re Madam blavatsky, Abby of Thelema Golden Boaugh, etc.
