Someone having said it is, doesn't mean that it is. The manual metaphor suggests that the author has supposedly figured out the inner structure, "workings", and properties of the human brain in a thorough manner. If you had been more educated in Cognitive Science and Philosophy of Mind, however, you would see not only why the metaphor fails (since there is plenty more to know about the human brain), but also why you should take the claims of obscure psychologists that have no acquaintance with fields other than their own with a grain of salt.

That being said, it's weak metaphysics and psychoanalytical speculation.

That's true of everything, so why the truisms? The author himself tells the reader not to take him too seriously, and to question his ideas and motives. What more do you want? I agree there is a possibility some people will take his words too seriously, but you're falling into the same pitfall as them, just with a negative regard rather than a positive one. When a comedian stands up and tells you it's turtles all the way down, the person who angrily tries to prove him wrong is just as much a fool as the one who believes it.
