How much of what you read do you retain?

Would you say your readings have given you actual, communicable knowledge? (after all, what good is knowing something you can't communicate)

Do you have any tips on how to better keep what you glean from boox?

>(after all, what good is knowing something you can't communicate)

1. NOT ALL KNOWLEDGE IMPELS COMMUNICATION EVEN IF IT IS COMMUNICABLE.

2. NOT ALL KNOWLEDGE IS COMMUNICABLE; SOME KINDS OF KNOWLEDGE ARE COMMUNICABLE & IMPLEMENTABLE, SOME ARE ONLY COMMUNICABLE, SOME ARE ONLY IMPLEMENTABLE, SOME ARE NEITHER COMMUNICABLE, NOR IMPLEMENTABLE.

Bettering myself.

Was that a serious question?

I'm more interested in internalizing the wisdom or "jist" of a book rather than retaining some witty lines or facts I can quote and brag about.

Yes I would say it has given me communicable knowledge but not verbatim quotes, but more like improvement of character and point of view

Does your condition also preclude you from reaching your capslock?

No knowledge impels communication. Yes, some knowledge is ineffable, some isn't. What are you even saying here. If you can't communicate ideas with others, they might as well not exist. It's like lost book no one will ever read, the world is no different for its existence.

He's 5'10"

Holy fuck. How do males under 6'1" not commit suicide?

I'm 5'8" and have sex with attractive women often. How do you feel now, /r9k/?

Telling yourself they are attractive doesn't make them attractive to the rest of the humanity

And you saying they're unattractive doesn't make them unattractive to the rest of humanity. Unless you're like 5'0", height really doesn't matter that much, provided you're confident. I only wish I had learned that earlier.

I get the feeling that this is the majority of /lit/, myself included. I've been questioning what good reading does if you aren't left with any lasting knowledge besides the vague remembrance of having read something interesting. I've read Mason & Dixon, which at the time was my favorite, but in all honesty I couldn't tell you much about it if you asked. I'm looking for a way to keep more of what I read.

I think the most tangible result of my reading is that my vocabulary improves with reading more often. I'm not necessarily learning new words, but just adding a lot of variety to my conversations from what I already know.
