This probably sounds stupid, but I started to try to exercise my more less none existing writing skills in the following manner: 1) I get myself a picture 2) I make little bullet points (?) about the most obvious features of the picture 3) I then attempt to connect the dots.

For example: Moondog, helmet, horns, spear, little chain, something that looks like a blanket or a poncho, leather cape, long grey beard that reaches down the chest, stone wall, shadow, boots, closed eyes, viking.

Moondog leaned on his spear. From the shaft of the blade dangled a little iron chain right down to his hips. He was wearing a horned leather helmet and a leather cape with something underneath that resembled a rugged blanket but was worn as a poncho. He had his eyes closed like someone in deep meditation, with a majestic looking beard that reached down to his chest, where the cape was bound together by some string. For persons walking by he must have looked like a relict from the past. A blind viking transported through time and here in the modern age had no more purpose.

An early /lit/ image. Here we see the humorous prose of Stephen King's musings on the elasticity of the female anus. DFW is on the i/lit/erates wallpaper because he was genuinely viewed as a master writer and aueteur who was the voice of the intellectual hivemind movement of /lit/ at the time. Speaking of Ayn Rand was considered shitposting/spam and a ban-able offense and Thomas Pynchon was lauded also.

A landscape suspended, perfectly Euclidean in its geometry. The brook runs downhill through a stony grassland, arriving at a gully sparsely populated with flora. The water speeds will all due haste down the rocky cliffside, bouncing amongst the boulders at the bottom. The face of the cliff was particularly rough to the touch, and copper to the eyes, with a particularly sweet smell rising up from the basin below.

This is my first time creatively writing in years, I'm trying to get better by writing each day. Critique please?

i like this thread. sometimes when i see a picture that speaks to me, i go into a quiet monologue about it.

I begin;

"Vast expanse, the horizon beckons. The moment is still and the color swirls around me. A momentous, stupendous, rolling laughter; the enjoyment of the simplicity of walking in the grass. The sun shines from inside my heart."

"So then the witch said i would remain a cat until i danced a waltz with a midget."

"That is indeed bad luck." said the Midget. " A witch has cursed me to remain a midget with a huge penis until I have fucked a black cat to death."

"A sad tale!" said the cat. "I would feel apprehension, were it not that the waltz is nearly over!"

"And i would feel dejected." said the midget. "Were it not that we are dancing a foxtrot."

"So you were misrepresenting your waltzing skills?" said the cat.

"I find unfortuantely that some prevarication is necessary at times." said the midget.

"It is the way of the world." said the cat.

To say that she was an eccentric would be wrong; not because she acted in a fairly outlandish manner but in spite of it. She was a tool. A tool of the modern age, in which it is normal to pose or to pretend in order to appear something you're not. Look at her, carefree and blithe, as if the fact that she's slicing cheese on public transport is as normal as sucking dick is in the houses of parliament. It's this apparent comfort, this nonchalance towards societal norms, that leads one to the conclusion that she is doing so solely for the camera. It's a one off, she won't be doing it again; she won't become known as the cheese board lady amongst fellow commuters and she won't become the unwitting subject of some viral YouTube channel. She is acting for the camera, for her 15 minutes of fame. Perhaps she'll upload the photo to her facebook account, or her instagram/flickr/tumblr/[insert materialist breeding grounds here]. Maybe it's part of an undergraduate degree project analyzing public reactions to weirdness. Either way, it's clearly not habitual. She wouldn't do this at 12:35pm when there's noone around to gawk at her, even if she is a little peckish for some cheese. No, she'll wait until she's at home like anyone else, so that she doesn't have to lug around her cheesboard 'just in case'. Which is a shame, because, just for once, it would be warming to see someone break convention simply because it makes sense to them at that moment, and not to provoke reaction.

It is because of this that I shall reiterate; she is not an eccentric. In fact, she is merely a hipster.

This man appeared insane to most, what on earth was he doing dressed up like a viking in the middle of Manhattan? He was however a musician, no one could create such Jazz, it would leave those around him astonished, where he heard such sounds that he gave now to the world. For most artistic gifts, people were much more willing to accept an outrageous dress code. He would be the talk of countless casual conversations with that outfit. On the bus, between old ladies,or as an ice breaker before a flirt,or as a filler of dreaded conversational silence. One could suppose this was effective advertising, clearly the man was not embarrassed for his strange outfit. Perhaps it was because he suffered from blindness, and he did not fear the mocking gazes, or perhaps through his suffering, he stopped fearing petty embarrassment.

The only thing you could make out looking at his black face were two glowing eyes. Or maybe they were just holes in a mask. His body was covered in war paint, with two ornamented belts hanging across his shoulders and a third one right under his belly, looking like a skirt. His hands were painted white, one holding something. A bow possibly, but nothing you could be sure about. Whatever he was, it was comforting to know that he still needed to wear shoes, cheap ones for that matter. Dirty little half boots that suggested a need for protection, and when you need to protect yourself from the ground you most likely can't protect yourself from a bullet. So I shot him with my Winchester.

Officer Ross crouched over the body of the young boy. Only seconds earlier, the youth had been hunched over his steering wheel, glaring through his window as Ross forced him off the road. That was before he flipped five times.

The body was still warm as Ross inspected his pockets.. Why do kids wear such ridiculously tight jeans? he thought. His fat sausage fingers could barely slip inside the denim pouch, but he found what he wanted: inside a sheet of paper, folded upon itself so many times that it was as stiff as the denim, were two pills. Ex.

Ross pocketed it and thought next about what to do with the body.
