What's the Blood Meridian of fantasy?

That one novel that transcends beyond the normal genre trappings to become a masterpiece.

It's the mantra of a man unwilling to take a risk without relating it to the familiar.

This, and only this.

Although I guess one could argue it's sci-fi and not fantasy..

Book of the New Sun certainly has good prose and matches Blood Meridian in tone and ambiguity, but Book of the New Sun is a lot more ornamented and indulgent compared to Blood Meridian's straightforward and economic prose.

They're not perfect matches, but they're close.

Its a fantasy story happening in a sci fi universe. I would say that say the same about Dune, or something like that.

>What's the Blood Meridian of fantasy?
A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE Listen you, I mean you, the one who just scrolled over this and highlighted the spoiler, I want you to take a minute to hear me out about this, I really mean this too. You're in a thread about the Fantasy genre right? You see that they are looking for the grim hard realities of Blood Meridian's brutality and all that, but no one has the guts to admit the truth, A song of Ice and Fire is the best "gritty" "realistic" Fantasy series out there because Deep&Edgy samefagged a lot of threads crying about how he hates anything that wasn't on his literature syllabus as he was coming up in grad school so he can make sense of his job at walgreen's. You don't have to be like that. You don't have to be ignorant to the truth. The real truth: Fantasy is a played out genre and you only got into it because of Lord of the Rings or video games.

It's not straightforward nor economic when McCarthy (uber-narrator) speaks, nor when the Judge has his passages.
