Come to think of it, are there any (known/popular) black american authors?

Look at fantasy authors:
Pretty much all of european ancestry, and their tired stories have a base in europe's medieval history (cept someone like Le Guin, whose anthropology background purposefully made her strive to make something different).

The weapons and arms, the architecture, the mythical beasts, all based mostly on european history and myth. Not many blacks in northern europe at that time IIRC (they were all being enslaved by arabs).

Perhaps in the far east there is a tradition of scifi and fantasy that obviously isn't european based, and that would make sense.

Anyone know of anything like that that has been translated into English?

Hey /pol/ here, as we are a developing and thriving community I believe that eventually we deserve representation, despite the fact that I despise democracy I will defend it when it benefits me. As we have these campaigns for greater representation of Negros and the fairer sex in media, it necessarily follows that we in turn deserve the same, otherwise we are an oppressed minority. Most fantasy is based off of Nordic myth, which is why people in those stories are of Nordic ethnicity. The work of J. R. R. Tolkien and Chistopher Paolini is based off of Nordic lore such as The Prose Edda. Fantasy books that are not based off of Nordic myth are books were the characters are animals, such as Kathryn Lasky's Guardians of Ga'Hoole Cycle. If she wants fantasy books with people who are ethnically African she should read Sunjata.
