But I've read Atlas Shrugged 420 times

The thing is, if you need to do things more than once to "get it", you're probably retarded.

I know this because I read the entire harry potter series 25 times over, pronouncing Hermione as "Herman".

you can't read a book, you can only reread a book.

Guilty. have like a ton of books on my Nook (most I will never read) so I never look back and keep looking for new things in the pile I may like. Rereading the same book twice when I really don't have much time to read as it is would feel like a waste.

I tend to stagger reading books in one series with books from another series I like for the same reason, to keep stuff fresh and moving forward.

>> No.4935063

I'm working on a second read. thinking of putting it down for a bit and returning maybe a year or two down the line considering I just finished my first read

I actually remember finding some objectivist forum when I started reading Atlas Shrugged where some guy was so devoted to Ayn's work that he just reread Atlas Shrugged over and over. He said he had already completed it 6 times...

That's not really the same. You can listen to a song or even half-watch a movie or a TV show while doing other stuff. Books need your full attention and time set aside for them to be effective.

You are now aware that it's easier to have a "favorite book" the fewer books you've read.

Patricians like me who've read over a thousand works cannot select just one.

Music and movies too, you know. Yes, you can put them in the background, unlike a book, but you wont truly appreciate anything that way.

I hate looking back. I read once slowly and experience the book. Then, it goes on my shelf and becomes a fond memory. Rereading books is for nostalgic old men, which I am not yet.
