Love cyberpunk, dislike the writers. Aside from a few like Gibson their writings are usually just bad.

Some cyberpunk authors can write endings, just happen that Stephenson can't.

What's your favorite cyberpunk?

I have yet to read it, but since it seems to be the cyberbible I intend to.

Gibson can't either though.

Why is the babylonian ur-language considered bad in Snow Crash? Wouldn't life be better if we all spoke the same language and understood each other perfectly and could directly influence each other's consciousness with nothing but words?

>> No.4934621

That ending was dumb. Raven had a fucking hydrogen bomb wired to his EKG. So he didn't die, or what?

>> No.4935290

What ending would have satisfied you then, Princess?

Can anyone write endings?

The ending of 1984 was perfect. It felt like the entire book was aiming to that final four-worded sentence and it's sheer humble simplicity about the destruction of a man leaves you almost dumbfounded.

Wasn't that Cryptonomicon?

>> No.4935404

>>4935366
no, it's Snow Crash alright. It's a moot point though, because the entire speech virus idea is pants on head retarded, so thinking about it is not fruitful.

Why do you think that? I thought the idea of protolanguage being a lower level part of the brain was pretty cool.

Also "If you look into the eye you see a terminal of the brain"

>> No.4937109

>>4934445
it wasn't so much bad as it was being used as a weapon against hackers and a brainwashing tool against the unwashed masses.

>> No.4937115

Because you can't write a proper ending for something that never ends.

>could directly influence each other's consciousness with nothing but words
thats the bad thing
