Because most of what he did in his philosophy is shittalk the other philosophers, was mostly disrespected by everyone until after he died, died dishonorably, etc.

The only difference is Nietzsche had to posit alternatives to the current "geist" (if you will) in philosophy, because the ideas were so ingrained that you couldn't argue against morality without just confusing people, you had to be directly immoral

plus, nietzsche probably looked at plato's socrates too much. nietzsche loved diogenes who was very similar to socrates as far as i can tell, except for he wasn't railroaded into arguing for virtue and shit

I noticed this after finally getting around to the dialogues. Socrates is pretty steadfast in his defiance of the the state and the laws and tears down the gods that others hold so much unfounded meaning in (well except in Crito but who knows what's with that one). He's also more about getting people to question and reevaluate their values rather than simply getting them to accept his own systematic philosophy.

Socrates seems pretty much like a free spirit. Sure he espouses a philosophy that is perhaps antithetical to that of Nietzsche's but his methods and relation to society and others is pretty admirable from a Nietzschean point of view.

The world is nothing more than our mental pictures, but we can know the world in itself - without the mental - by looking at out body since it is the only thing we experience the inner and the outer together. The essence of this is Will, striving, unceasing, wanting. Have you ever wanted a cookie reaaaaally bad all you could think about was that cookie and it consumed your thoughts? This is Will. This really really sucks and leads to horrible suffering, look at nature and all the animals killing each other. How do we escape? Well art can help a little bit, especially music, it allows us to take a break. But its not enough, we have to stop wanting altogether and become like those bald men who don't marry and live in the forest. You see how peaceful and happy they are? That's because they don't give a fuck about anything anymore. Also don't kill yourself, just don't. And don't have kids for god's sake.

me neither, he basically says its 'meaningless' because you are just Will, and will always be Will and suicide doesn't change anything. But at least it changes my current individual suffering life, even if I'm just going to join the greater Will, what do I care. I mean, if suicide is meaningless then so is monkish renunciation since the monk just dies and rejoins the universe and back to Willing.

The linguistic sign is arbitrary. You can't conceive of anything without using it. Most people try to understand the world through believing in a "transcendental signifier" (god, capitalism, etc) that is supposed to exist outside of language and give life deeper meaning. They're retarded because there is no outside language. This fiction they create underlies all the binary oppositions that they create - good/bad, male/female, black/white, etc.

removing its handle, it is still a hammer but in a 'mutilated"

threshold of formal consistency where it will lose its form; this

the hammer and sickle

Your only goal is to constantly try to be happy. You will do very bad things sometimes, things that will make you feel bad because people told you those were bad things, but you feeling bad about them is actually what you want, because feeling bad makes you feel good. People who feel bad all the time are really enjoying feeling bad. They want other people to see them feeling bad.

Also nothing can hurt you unless you let it, because you want it, which leads us back around to the feeling bad to feel good thing.
