Her being commanding like that undermines the idea that she's just a young girl who can't help but crave D.

When she acts so dominant she doesn't seem like this is an almost shameful thing she can't help, but more of a casual and very optional fancy.

The show on many occasions has really taken a serious bias towards Dany. That's not a stance I'd like as we're rapidly approaching her destruction arc

Almost all of their invented scenes are really stupid, it cuts stuff that shouldn't be cut (where the fuck is the singer for Petyr to frame?) but I'll give it dialogue.

The real gold of the show is the 1 on 1 conversations between characters. The show does a good job of having every character that meets have good chemistry. Even ones that don't meet in the books.

Arya and Tywin in S2 for example.

>> No.4911219

In my opinion this way of playing it is better. Given her current position, she'd totally be lording it over everyone and be all domineering. Nothing wrong with craving the D, as long as it doesn't get in the way of her being a Queen. Which they seem to be avoiding making it (yet?).

It's the difference between a dominating all powerful queen and a young girl thrown into a position of power she wasn't ready for. The show makes Dany out to be much more competent than she is in the books, and her control over her sexual desires is much more matured. It think Dany's most interesting character development comes from the near future, and is beginning now, where her mistakes catch up to her and she gets a reality check. She's not a mighty ruler, she's a young girl.

If the show adapts the rest of the series faithfully that will change. Dany's Mary Sue-ness was a deliberate misdirection.

I can't fucking wait. I'm a showfag (I tried to read the books but he writes like a child), and the most unbearable thing in the show is Dany's scenes. She is so hatefully smug and self righteous in every scene, each scene being the same one repeated again and again of her being smug and full of western values while men and brown people fall at her feet.

Honestly, if she had been intentionally written up to this point to be the show's biggest villain they'd be doing a perfect job. I can't fucking wait for this bitch's comeuppance.

I'm all for the brown slave people falling at her feet (it's believable and realistic). She and her minions have higher breeding.

They even keep animals as pets, totally ignoring the fact that animals are sentient and have just as much rights as we do!! I can't believe how corrupt and Westernized the show is.

Yes, the books have *sex* in them, but the sex scenes in question are about as far from sensual and arousing as possible because Martin has a real knack for writing comparatively well (or at least solidly) and then stumbling headfirst into sheer cringe territory; and he does this more often than not during sex scenes. You'll find a more passionate description of a roast hen in the books than you will of anything pertaining to the human body.

>"fantasy world, fantasy world! we can do what we want!" which is a stupid cop-out
Let's be honest. For a fantasy series, it kind of makes sense, don't you think?

Most of the decisions were made for better conflicts, which provide better entertainment for the viewer. Imagine if Geoffrey didn't terrorize Tyrion in his own wedding. That would be a hell of a lot more boring, and you would also have lost your build up to the poisoning.

It's obvious that most of their decisions on these things were made to create more amusing scenarios, and also to make certain characters more likable, that way you are attached to them before they die (hence why Tyrion refuses to have sex with the girl). I don't particularly enjoy the series, but wouldn't you say that that is fairly decent writing?

>> No.4917044

Sure, Tyrion not fucking the girl is a way for the author to make him even more likable, but at least it wasn't out of character for him at that point. Plus, he was clearly aroused by her naked body if you remember the scene in the book. At least the author put that in. It would be bullshit if he would go "No, I'm not even aroused by this 13-year-old female body that has the curves of a woman!"

That would be because the only reason he even came up north from Dorne is because he's really upset about the way the lannisters ordered the rape of his sister, and he's there to stir shit up and get some vengeance. I'm only going by what took place in the lit, not the show, since I don't watch it, but are you really suggesting that it would have been absolutely impossible for any man prior to our time to reject the 14 year old maiden snatch of his wife based on genuine moral opposition? Any man would have jumped on her in an instant with frothing mouths, unable to suppress their ravenous lust? Tyrion felt a tremendous amount of sympathy for the girl, given what she had endured, and probably an even greater amount of shame, considering his family's role in her family's downfall. He also realizes the humiliating implication if Sansa sleeps with a dwarf; Tyrion isn't a monster, he is capable of empathy, especially to other outcasts, misfits or people who have suffered, and I'm sure he posses a healthy dose of self loathing.

>why does that spanish/greek/whatever fop openly imply that the patriarch (and de facto leader of westeros) of the lannisters ordered the rape of his sister? is he a fucking dumbass?
Are you referring to the show or books? There certainly wasn't any thing wrong with this plot in the books.

>why could geoffrey terrorise tyrion openly on his own wedding? he's a king, not tyrant, and underage too. he's subjected to rules and codes of decorum like everyone else.
But he *is* a tyrant, at least within the family and palace. His mother, uncle, grandfather and council determine political decisions, but Joffrey is still the king. And as a King with a violent, unstable streak (age be damned), he can do close to whatever he wants within the palace. The only thing that can restrain him is his family, not fucking decorum. Plus I'm pretty sure his mother had no objections to seeing Tyrion humiliated. And why is young age significant in this case but not in the above with Sansa?

While I think the show is very silly in many places, especially with translating from the source material, and I agree whole heartedly with the stupid modern values inserted for good measure, your post was ill thought out and all over the place. None of the above points represent some contradiction between contemporary European feudal social values and conventions. And why is that this franchise has to be a total and faithful reproduction of such a time? Nothing suggests there needs to be any more than a loose inspiration; the 'rules' are established by the author more than another time period, and he's done an incredible job at rendering such a complete world.

>That Dying man scene was 10/10 (pic).

Best thing about that scene is the actor.
He played Vladimir in Waiting for Godot.

His musings about life and death were very Becketesque in that scene. Good stuff

Anyone else sad we didn't get a full blown sex scene between the two?

Could have been sexy as fuck to see her continue being forceful during it.

Instead. just an ass shot of a guy.

Pretty sure the actress refuses to do nudity anymore, so its a moot point.
