Hello /lit/, I plan on writing something based on ancient Greek mythology.

Any tips?

Don't fall for this moron's trap. Gay/Straight distinction didn't exist in the Greco-Roman world. It was penetrator/penetrated and Initiator of Act/Person Acted Upon.

That is why Prostitutes in Rome were considered 'male' and allowed to wear the Toga.

The one from the 17th century? Honestly, I'd recommend against it, especially if you're using to to try and understand the story telling devices and style of the Greeks. Chapman translated into rhyming couplets of 8 beats a measure (don't know what this is called). This is very un-Greek. The Greek original doesn't rhyme and was written in hexameter. The language of Chapman's edition is outdated and very dense. To translate such a work as the Odyssey into English with rhyme, you have to really warp the words and meanings to fit an arbitrary aesthetic vision. Like they told Pope when he translated the Odyssey into couplets: "It's a pretty poem, but it's not Homer."

There are tons of free editions online that are much better. Go with one of those unless you really have a desire to slog through Chapman's Odyssey, not Homer's Odyssey.

If you can pay for an edition, I recommend Fagles. He made a very authentic translation, in verse (hexameter, I think), but was willing to sacrifice the verse for clarity and accuracy. That is what you'll want to read so you can better understand the work.
