Hello /lit/, i´m looking for some good comedy literature; something that will lighten up my spirit and put me into a good mood before i go to sleep, or.. whenever i feel like reading of course.

Any suggestions? Authors, titles?

Try this: Siddharta - Hermann Hesse

When I first read it, I had many epiphanies. It's like you obviously known that particular something but only subconciously. I really don't know how to describe it in words tho. Also, I'm not a regular poster (just lurking shit on 4chan)

That doesnt sound like comedy at all

The problem is, the good laughs are always directly related to the shit you catch. Optimists are always relatively humourless people. Humour arises from shitty circumstances, and so any truly funny work you'll read will not necessarily lighten your spirit and put you in a good mood if you're looking for happy cuddly shit. It depends on your constitution. Grimly funny shit always lightens my mood though, so I'd suggest works like Journey to the End of the Night or Lucky Jim or Schopenhauer's essays for some good keks.

You could also check out Bukowski, I read a couple of his books last week and found myself laughing out loud plenty of times. It's also an easy read.

Catch-22 gave me lots of laughs, but it isn't necessarily spirit-lifting

On women, wisdom of life, studies in pessimism. Not sure if they're conventionally funny, but I just love Schoppy's style and insights. Nietzsche is also very funny.

Parodies of fantasy tropes aren't even funny anymore, they're just trite and boring. Not to mention Terry copies and pastes whole paragraphs between books.

Gogol. I love his writing style, no author makes me smile as much as Gogol with his choice of similes and metaphors, and the strong current of surrealism and absurdity that he writes with.

There's a compilation of his short stories called The Collected Tales, translated by P&V. The first half of it is all based on Ukrainian folk tales. I can't recommend it strongly enough

Discworld hasn't been a parody of fantasy since the first several novels.
