Is it already an artistic accomplishment to have written a book, trying to portray some subjective aspect of life honestly, even though the book itself lacks quality both in content and style? I mean when you really tried, but without being pretentious about it. I'm not talking about delusions of grandeur.

Yes. Purely because many people attempt to write books and never finish. And, because many people succeed in writing shitty books and believe they have created something worthwhile, so they never improve.

If you write a book and are at least aware of its mediocrity, then good for you I'd say that's a worthy artistic accomplishment.
