I just read American Psycho. On one of the pages about halfway through the book, a woman calls Patrick "Batman."

>> No.479092

tom cruise also appears on the book
and there's that interview with christian bale where he said that his performance was inspired by the emptiness of tom cruise's personality

Currently it's an entertaining book.

I'm at page 100 or so.

Awesome!
Do you think he'll ever base a performance on that lighting guy he hates?

>> No.479127

i misspoke, he was inspired by the lifelessness of tom cruise's eyes:

>We talked about how Martian-like Patrick Bateman was, how he was looking at the world like somebody from another planet, watching what people did and trying to work out the right way to behave. And then one day he called me and he had been watching Tom Cruise on David Letterman, and he just had this very intense friendliness with nothing behind the eyes, and he was really taken with this energy.

There's also a whole chapter on the band Genesis, and another on shampoo.

>> No.479132

the second chapter where he just goes about his morning doing shit is awesome

>I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual.

It's funny because I hate Genesis after Wind and Wuthering.

Shit! Where is the goddamn water-soluable spermicidal lubricant?!

Haha! I laughed out loud on that part.

Is this worth reading?

I'd never heard of it until just now, now I have an nice interest in it.

Opinions?

It's entertaining. Not a classic or anything like that, but yeah.

>> No.479239

Just finished it also. I liked the bit where he cut that chick's tongue out and fucked her mouth, came in it, then started fucking it again but couldn't come so he stopped.

>I'm running down Broadway screaming like a banshee, my coat open, flying out behind me like some kind of cape.
>Some kind of cape.
>cape.

I think Ellis knew something we didn't.

I'm reading this now. I can't quite handle the dog scenes. ;_;

>> No.480030

Typical book for teenagers. They read it and brag on the internet about how hardcore they are for reading about violence. They think it makes them seem intelligent and mature. Adults laugh at the kids who like this book.

Problem with the movie was it just sort of sprang the craziness of reality falling apart all at once

IMO, American Psycho was wayyy better than any erotica I had ever read.

>> No.480672

It's horrific and extremely graphic. The movie is so tame compared to the book. Ellis describes brutal murders with the tone of a car's manual. The first half of the book is very slow, with Pat Batemen walking into rooms and naming every single brand of clothing that other people are wearing.

There's also a scene involving a hamster tube and a hooker. It's a fucking amazing book though. Read it, then read Less Than Zero.

>> No.480671

>>480481

It's perfectly relevant. Immature kids read American Psycho. Lonely women read Twilight. Both are relevant.
