Reading this now. I'd say it's pretty autistic, And is respectable Im guessing because of it's world creation aspects. I expect this is why the pale king is considered a masterpiece. Dfw is kind of like an anthropologist and a microeconomist ducttaped together in the giuse of a short story writer. Kind of like Chekhov or Kafka.

i liked it. i think it's probably a good bridge between normal novels and hard to read/long novels. i feel like i would be more confident reading something like moby dick now that i've read IJ.
