Apparently The Haunting of Hill House is one of the scariest novels ever. It transcends typical scaredom with it's scariness. Should I read it or will it spook me too much, /lit/?

Heard an audio book of that before the film. Wasn't scared.

>MY COUNTENANCE WHEN I JUST REALIZED THAT "THE HAUNTING OF HILL HOUSE", AND "HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL" ARE ENTIRELY UNRELATED.

Of either, no. I guess Sphere's thriller atmosphere was spoiled by the single voice narration. The film gave no surprises.

I think my mother read Haunting of Hill House. She was impressed enough I think.

Based on Jackson's book.

In the same regards, Killing Hope is fucking terrifying as well. Simply because the US has gotten away with so much fucking atrocious, genocidal shit, yet nobody cares and still falls for the tired "DEMOCRATIC US FREEDOM" propaganda.

Which one?

American Psycho.

Not scary, as in horror. But scary in how I never expected a book simultaneously to inspire such revulsion and humor.

I read this one book, a young adult book, that I can't remember the name of. These kids were canoeing, ended up on an island bank and it turned out there were vagrants living there, or something. It just felt like a horror movie where you think everything's fine and then you find out your amongst mortal enemies. I wish I could re-find that novel.

I love this book, the "antagonist" for the bulk of the book is so fucking unsettling. Pretty eerie atmosphere.

To continue with the de-railment, I got about half-way (300 pages) through 120 Days until I started literally gagging. it was the passage where she's relating the story of the john who requested dirty old women to puke and burp in his mouth while he tongue kissed them. i don't know why i'm supposed to read on after i physically start dry heaving.
