Why is /sci/ so elitist?

>> No.4739791

why shouldn't they be?

Why do you call them elitist? Much of what I think someone might label as 'elitism' there boils down to frustration over things like the endless 0.999...≠1 nonsense. Also, have you asked this question there instead of here on /lit/?

Where are the math scores? Having verbal and writing is a bit redundant because it makes it seem like language skills are two-thirds of intelligence/knowledge/aptitude when really they mostly overlap. If there's writing and verbal there should be word problems and number sense or calculator and non-calculator or multiple choice math and frq math.

Cuz they're good at math and shit.

Because they have been swayed by the prestige, a prestige that is held high by no one else than our society. Obviously, parasitizing upon that is close to being pathetic, but essentially it's not their fault for being this ignorant. I don't think 'elitist' would be the most adequate word to describe them, since most of them can't seem to comprehend neither advanced logics, nor how natural sciences, from the theoretical perspective, works in the first place. After all, the word implies being superior in some way in relation to some other group, which, clearly, they are not.

They mostly operate with their perfunctory knowledge of Quantum Mechanics and Evolutionary Biology/Psychology in order to engage Creationists. Not sure why /lit/ gets so upset this frequently.

Why are social workers so dumb?

It makes sense, I suppose, most of the ones I've had to deal with were very well-meaning, but not too bright, standard people trying to help people become standard.

It is also nice to see that my prejudice against engineers is accurate.

My friends who have maths degrees work in logistics for a mining firm, as an importer, and as a software developer. Exactly what degree you get matters a whole lot less than what where you try to take it. No technical degree actually readies you for any specific job.

It will do you good. A few logic classes could probably teach you why it is not wise to take a discipline as a whole and treat it as if it operates under a single belief, axiom or assumption, namely "love for wisdom". It may also exposure you to your own stupidity and ignorance, which you just demonstrated.
