Who here uses audiobooks? Does anybody on /lit/ have experience with long distance running while listening to an audiobook?

Does the aspect of running distract from the book?

I listen to audiobooks while I play computer games with no meaningful audio -- like Dwarf Fortress.

That way I can get autism while I have my autism.

Can you focus on the book while playing DF?

Yes I run and work out while listening to audio books

>I listen more than I read
>Yes this still counts
>you can listen on double or 3x speed
>finish books in much less time
>also get exercise

I also do this
>don't feel bad for enjoying the things you enjoy

I can't not get completely lost after 5 minutes of listening to an audiobook, how do you guys pull this shit off?

The focus is mixed but I seem to pick it up in some esoteric sense. I don't try high level literature however -- usually things that can be told in an explanatory format.

There's quite a floor on it. I can't listen to really complex works.

So you aren't picking it up then

It's mixed. I take it as a devil's bargain for being able to watch dwarves get pulped by demons and other nonsense.

I've tried, but it doesn't hold my interest because I'm not being forced to look at a page to get the information. It's fine for short periods of time but I get distracted and slowly tune out.

That said, all of the best (read: not shit) road trips I've been on have been thanks to audio books. Between major cities radio tends to be awful and I get sick of even my favourite music quickly when staring down the barrel of 10+ hours of driving, so audio books work well.

I was thinking simpler things might work best.

Well you can at least easily listen to an audiobook and simultaneously wash the dishes or do whatever housework you have to do.
Or listen to it while lying in bed when your eyes are to tired to read but your mind is still awake.
That's at least what I do.
