Currently reading The Savage Detectives by Bolano and loving it so far. What does /lit/ of of this novel, and Bolano in general? Once I finish this I'll probably hop on over to 2666. While I hear that 2666 is better, I have also heard a strong following that TSD is actually the best.

No one?

I barely started reading Los Detectives Salvajes (Spanish is my native language), and though interesting, I seem to miss the actual gripping part of the book. What are your opinions thus far OP?

Finished reading it few days ago. Middle part is great, but the last one is kind of disappointing. Overall great novel, now gonna read 2666

It was one of the few novels I've read recently that I would consider boring and pointless. Tossed after getting about a hundred pages into the second half. Maybe something was lost in translation? I just found nothing interesting about the characters, content or writing.

It was hugely overrated to the point where I was sort of mad that somebody else had read it that wasn't me. I don't even want to get onto the subject of Bolano but I'm sure that I could have written a better book, and had I have written The Savage Detectives word-for-word as he did then it would have been much better than his version.

The hack.

I don't know if you're being sincere or highlighting the attitude which I tried to ridicule...

Just started the second part. I really liked the first part and felt it flowed really well. I'm also a spanish speaker, but I found it in English and read it that way. Maybe I should switch to Spanish?

Is it like 2666?
