Why is analytic philosophy entirely like this, /lit/?

Formal logic and dialectics aren't entirely opposed to one another. We know from mathematics that A v ~A is correct in some cases. What dialectians are more interested in are the way things change and evolve, for which you can't apply formal logic.

>> No.4712728

If you go to university in the States, 90% of the philosophy you learn will be analytic with a side of Hegel, Marx, and Nietzsche. Anything else is written off as PoMo faggotry. So, you're pretty much molded into a certain methodology.

My old History teacher studied Philosophy at Oxford. He was a bit fedora, hated postmodernism and all forms of leftism, I can imagine him singing this. Probably the best teacher I've ever had though.

I actually got a good crash course in Continental Philosophy at my community college -- I was surprised when that line of education suddenly terminated at university.

Odd.

I posed this question in another thread. I study anthropology at a rather quality university in Berlin and cathedra of philosophy here is dominated by centre-right and right wing proffessors who push mainly continental philosophy while faculty of sociology or psychology are run by rev-left warriors. I heard it's exact opposite in terms of proffesor body political affiliations and working material in US. Is it true?

>[TW: fat-shaming, ableism, classism]
>Campaigns by schools in order to get students to eat ‘healthy’ are highly problematic and need to be called out. today while in the dining hall i passed a table dedicated to ‘student nutrition’ program which is campaigning to get more students to eat and exercise according to THEIR health standards. I was tr*ggered as all get out. OK by doing this you are actively participating in fat-shaming and overall body-shaming. Fat does not equal unhealthy I repeat FAT DOES NOT EQUAL UNHEALTHY. neither does sloth. i shouldn’t have to exercise in order for you to accept my body. these campaigns are also classist as they are run by middle-class people who have the time to workout.
