Dear /lit/,

My girlfriend recently convinced me to read her bedtime stories. We are far apart so i read to her through the mic while she is in bed listening.

But since she has read a lot of literature, old classics like the little mermaid, the brothers grimm and 1001 that i can only think of will not be new to her. I made up stories, but not only am i bad at making up things, but their silly nature actually makes her laugh and more awake.

Might the people of /lit/ suggest any other places to find good fairytales/folk tales to read? Preferably about 30 minutes of reading. I was thinking of asian folktales and fairytales, but have had trouble finding good translated stories.

Any suggestions? Website links would be best, but i would not mind buying some things.

Are you dating a six year old girl? Because that is the only reason I can see why she would insist that you read her fucking bedtime stories, you pedophile.

Is she 12? Tell her you are both adults and cut this shit out.

alright, lets assume that we are both 3 years old. What are some good stories.

Tell her about your personal experiences

Hans Christen Anderson has some good stories.

But seriously, you gotta tell her to shut her shit and read her own books. Childish nonsense is not becoming of a lady, and indulging in it is not flattering for a gentleman.

I recommend romance novels that you can segue into phone sex. But I only date adults so I'm not sure how this will work for you.

Any folklore collection ought to do it. Most myths aren't a half hour long though, so you'll need to read multiple stories to fill up the time.

There are hundreds of myth/folklore anthologies. Pick your culture or preferred theme, and you'll have many hours of reading to do.

avaxhome has tons of books on folk stories from various cultures.

Fairy-tale-style modern stories oughtta do the trick. Stuff like "The Little Prince"; "Night on the Milky Way Railway" and other stories by Kenji Miyazawa; "The Happy Prince," and "Run, Melos!" spring to mind. There's also Jorge Luis Borges and Isabel Allendes if you want to be edgy-cute, which you clearly do.

Fuck the haters, OP, I wish I had a boyfriend who would read me bedtime stories. I'm going to die alone and unloved and probably fat.

Seconding Hans Christian Anderson.
Here's a link to a lot of his stories http://hca.gilead.org.il/

I would recommend
The Princess and the Pea, The Little Mermaid, The Emperor’s New Suit, The Brave Tin Soldier, The Flying Trunk, The Swineherd, The Nightingale, The Ugly Duckling, The Top and Ball, The Snow Queen, The Shadow and “There Is No Doubt About It.”

Let them whine, OP. I think it's kinda cute.

You could try reading her some short stories.
Neil Gaiman has some nice ones.
Check out Fragile Things and Smoke and Mirrors.

Damn that's hot. If I were you, I would give her naked tea parties. >:Y "I AM YOUR SCONE." D:

Read her Perrault. He created most of the fairy tales that the Grimms took.

The Hobbit is a nice read. Hitchhiker's guide... Well that would keep her awake. Terry Pratchett has some nice books for kids, I like them :)
