Of course I've also got a big backlog. Hmm, I've just realized that pretty much everything I've written here is "plebe" entertainment-tier stuff, but you know, I think I'm OK with that. I spent my teens and most of my college years trying to read "literary" sounding works and /lit/core, and I certainly enjoyed being able to take part in the wealth of criticism etc., but, you know, I think I'm ok with reading whatever I want now.

>>4673436
>Thinking, Fast and slow
Ooh, I have that book on my shelf but I haven't read it. When I was a little kid I had this idea about different "states of mind" that involved "normal" slow, methodical thinking, but also "instant" high-level (i.e., generalized) thinking, like the way you are able to remember what class to go to without specifically articulating in your mind "Ok now I go to building X, floor Y, room Z." Since I had talked about that, someone in my family gave me that book a few years ago, but I never got around to reading it. I wonder if it's about the same kind of stuff I was always trying to articulate?

>>4672007
Hey, well, Dune is a great start for someone who comes from the classic 4chan background and doesn't yet know how to into literature. I'm not sure I liked Dune the very first time I tried to read it, but I revisited it a few years later when I was a freshman in high school I think, and it was "the bomb." Some of the sequels are good, but it gets a little, you know, freaky after a while. Still read them though, Children of Dune is one of the good ones if I remember. Or wait, maybe it's the one after that.

>> No.4674886

>>4674848
It was surprisingly good. It reminded me of Beckett and his many protagonists lying in bed, dying, scribbling endless paragraphs (literally, the book is like one or 2 paragraphs long with hundreds of sentences each).

It's highly literary in its plot, with many references and authors. I love books with that (I'm reading Jünger because a character mentions an anecdote of Jünger during WW2).

It'd be of help knowing a little of what happened in South America in the 60-70s with all the coups and stuff.
