He's actually pretty good. He's not serious literature or anything, but, unlike most pleb lit, he makes no implications that he is so, and, well, he's actually good as far as entertainment writing goes.

>> No.4620772

nope
even if you dislike his work why bother hating him?

i judge people for saying they don't like stephen king

No that's fucking stupid. His short stories are perfectly adequate and some are good, he's great for middle-schoolers. Most of his novels suck fissured ass though.

I avoid saying I don't like Stephen King to people IRL, to try to avoid sounding like a hipster douche. I've tried a few and really don't like them though.

>> No.4620811

I'll tell you exactly why I hate Stephen King, but it's probably not for the reasons you'd think: The Dark Tower.

Any random hack pulpy fantasy novelist could've come up with a better ending to that saga, and right up to the end the ideas were pretty good. Then, he decided he was just tired of writing it, something, because he sure as fuck didn't finish it.

I also judge them. I judge them WELL, that is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did you mean pretentious? Talking down on other people's favorite writers doesn't make you a hipster.

I cannot agree with that statement.

I feel that he is easily the greatest American fantasy writer of the last fifty years. The Dark Tower was amazingly creative.

>> No.4620977

He has wonderful short stories and the Dark Tower is breddy gud.

Fantasy IS pleb-lit though.

Nah, shit like Tom Clancy and Michael Crichton write is pleb-lit.

King has the ability to write in a very particular style, sort of a bizarre gothic Americana, that sets him apart from true pleb-lit. It's what makes his screenplays so good.

disliking things that are popular and mainstream can make you look like a hipster i guess

>>4620831
you mean the series in which one of his characters describes stephen king as a "shoddy quick-sketch artist" who squandered what little talent he had?

This started out as about the only thing I liked by him anymore since he sobered up, they he utterly ruined it during his "comeback" after giving up writing for a while. Everything he touched after his accident was utter shit. And he didn't just ruin his own works. He felt the need to ruin other people's stuff by becoming an interventionist producer so he could fuck up things like Kingdom Hospital.
