What European civilizations could be compared with prehispanic empires at their height?

I like to think about Mayans as the equivalent of pre-orphic Greek city-states.

I was thinking about this myself, actually, but more along the lines of "Where else did human sacrifice survive the development of large cities?" There's something depressing about the whole rustic wicker man thing. Why bother with human sacrifice it's just some muddy, rustic affair? It's like a wedding dress made of sack cloth.

There's something delightfully horrific about the Aztecs. Mexico city must have been like one of those exotic fantasies that used to be popular - Salome, Salammbo, The Thief of Bagdad, except with added horror.

Reciting that list, I answered my own question. Carthage had both luxurious urbanity and human sacrifice - I need to give Salammbo another read, it's been years.

THE MINOANS, AND THE AZTECS.

I think it's pretty disputable whether or not carthage actually had human sacrifice.

HELLO?

CARTHAGE WAS AN AFRICAN CIVILIZATION; CARTHAGE WAS LOCATED IN WHAT IS NOW TUNISIA, AFRICA, NOT EUROPA, AND ITS PEOPLE WERE NEGROIDS, AND MONGRELS.

The evidence is fairly strong they practiced child sacrifice at the very least.

Ms. Rand this really must not be your area of expertise. Pic related, those are Mediterranean africans, they're a mix of Italians/Greeks/Arabs. Currently, anyway, and I'm pretty sure the Carthaginians were of similar ethnicity. And if you're trying to discredit "negroids" giving them credit for an expansive empire isn't the best way to do it

Why the hell did Aztecs practiced sacrificed anyway?
