i never understood the arts' obsessions with being centered in NYC. the only people who can truly live the "nyc experience" are those in finance and yet writers, performers, artists still flock to the city under some preconceived notion that they'll join the literati/find their muse/become happy even though they'll live in shitty apartments and have tons of debt.

Brooklyn is livable. The city proper, not so much. Brooklyn is also gentrifying, but that's why the Bronx beckons. First the rats, then the artists, then the realtors.

Plus, people think they'll find all those things because they very well might. A visit to the Library or the KGB is often more worthwhile than a workshop

>know where the next big place'll be
>who the next big people'll will be
>who are the up n' comers
isn't this literally luck?

There are historical trends you can track.
A little bit of research also helps.
A good gamble is Pittsburgh (already being called the next Paris), and the long gamble -- but one that could REALLY pay off if you want to be involved with the next movement -- is Detroit.

I am a Pittsburgh native. What makes you say that?

Pittsburgh has been attracting more artists and punks in recent years because of the low cost of living, but the art scene needs work. A lot of work.

It's mostly bougie scum, tbh.
