I've heard an English-speaking person (British) pronounce Quixote as 'quick-sote'.

Your French words are right-wing enough. Why aren't you published in Valeurs Actuelles yet?

>> No.4619110

The average reader's favorite words are usually very simple and positive: love, eternal, world, infinite, night, sun, more, god, life, man, music, smile, grace, fire, ocean, you, free, smell, good, heart, name, dream, bright, hope, with, day, pure, kind, morning, great, feeling, future, wide, light, always, etc.
Take any classic, put it in a word frequency counter and you'll see that the text is literally based on these words (especially man, love, time and world). I think you cannot succeed if you ignore this and choose only complex and/or negative words in your work.
For example, in De Quincey's Opium Eater, "with" appears 349 times and "without" only 51 times.
"Life": 54, "death": 13.
"Dreams": 37, "nightmare": 1.
Finally, the negative words that works the best seem to be "never", "dark" and "poor". But, as you can see, they are very simple.
Just use rarer words for some variety, to impress the reader, to lift him up; "labyrinthine" or even "endeavor" are good complements; but the heart of your writing should be composed of very basic words, and positive more than negative. What is audacious is to use common words and make them positive, or rich of another meaning, by placing them wisely (the romantics did that to death with "dark", Paul Valéry with "pure", etc.).
Also, my favorite non-basic word should be something like "ethereal".
