Hey guys,

I'm thinking about getting a kindle. My only hang up is whether or not I'll be able to put ebooks of mine onto it or not? Does anyone have a kindle that would be able to speak to this?

Other thoughts on getting a kindle vs. another ereader?

>> No.4599109

kindle paperwhite is probably the best ereader around town (imo) in terms of readability and comfort on the eyes in whatever light
in terms of your own ebooks/piracy, use calibre and en.bookfi.org
the downside is it only reads .mobi/.azw3, but fiinding .mobis isn't too hard

>> No.4599116

Idk how you guys can read off a screen. I need to feel and smell the paper.

Liking that site, sweet. Thanks man. Alright cool just wanted to make sure I'd be able to get the .mobi's over to the kindle and that I didn't have to buy them all from Amazon (do you use a cable or email it to yourself or..?)

>> No.4599141

>>4599134
you get a USB cable with the kindle, and then calibre recognizes it and can send shit over

I actually read better and faster off a screen. Maybe it's because I'm used to staring at and reading off a screen several hours a day.

You can convert most formats to .epub (which I think Kindle uses). Plenty of free conversion programs. Never had a problem using my own ebooks on them.

Great battery, useful thing to have, especially at college/university. Paid for itself within about two weeks, and surprisingly nice to read from.

On a personal note, it emanates evil.

This too. If you're like me and spend most of your time staring at a screen, picking up a kindle and reading a book after a long session on your computer is far less traumatising than staring at paper.

It's a black monolith. It's made by Amazon. The word 'Kindle' more than suggests an act of bookburning. Bypasses bookstores. Feels kinda like the books don't belong to you if you buy them.

But that's just my feelings about it. It's a useful gadget if you like to read and use a computer a lot.

if you use calibre you can convert anything to mobi. txt/html/doc/epub/text pdfs all work perfectly.

slsk in the best place to find books, just search the book and author name, and if it's a common book add mobi to your search. anything rare you cant find you can add to your wishlist search and be alerted when someone logs in with it.

>>4599275
you can convert scanned pdfs, but you cant change the font size or highlight anything inside the kindle and it'll be like 100MB because it's basically 300 pages of jpegs.

>>4599323
the average 200-300 page mobi book is 0.3-4MB so you could fit 5000 books that size onto it.

eBay
but I'm a retard and didn't look at the seller's info at all before buying it because I was afraid someone else would buy it

kinda sketchy, probably a fake

from what I can tell, KOReader offers almost no benefits over the regular kindle

I've been using a paperwhite for about two weeks and I love this thing. It's so easy to hold and it's so easy on the eyes. It's making me want to read more. I don't know if I could completely stop buying physical books though. There's still something about having physical books.

Ya it will. I use to pirate books all the time with my kindle when i had it. Its great. Also, calibre converts epubs into kindle friendly mobis flawlessly. And as others have said, the paper white is the greatest invention of all time.

Or its meant to suggest a rekindling of one's love of reading.

But book-burning is equally valid, I suppose.

So who's excited for the next Paperwhite this year?

Rumour says it will have a 300ppi display and some sort of matte glass screen instead of the plasticy stuff it has now.

Dat pixel density though.

Hey all,

OP here. Thanks for all your advice. Just ordered it off Amazon now

Here's the first books I plan on reading on it:
>Lolita
>Meditations on First Philosophy
>A Scanner Darkly

Any other suggestions? Your favorite book perhaps?

Keep any eye out for deals. Sometimes you can get regularly priced Kindle books for $.99-$1.99. That's how I ended up snagging NOS4A2, which I really enjoyed. Its back to regular price now, though. Also, you can get a lot of older/public domain stories for free from Amazon. Technically, you can get all the books you want for free through piracy, but still.

I got a Kobo Aura HD, it's nice. Having 3GB plus microsd is nice. The 6.8 screen is nice as well, pdf scrolling is really smooth. I'd either get a paperwhite, a kobo aura / hd, or nook glo light
