If you do, go to a tattoo artist that's worth a shit.

I got this same one, only mine's far better than what you've got pictured, because the artist knew how to make a drop-shadow work on a black tattoo. He advised me if he didn't do it, it'd just look black and blobby from a distance--notice how, in the picture you've got, it looks like a crayon drew it. I acknowledge the kid-like graffiti-looking version is closer to the spirit of the book, but personally I'd want something a bit nicer indelibly on my skin.

How much text is too much text for a man's tattoo? Because I've been entertaining the idea of getting a tattoo of the following sentence from Portrait of the Artist:

>He went up to his room after dinner in order to be alone with his soul: and at every step his soul seemed to sigh: at every step his soul mounted with his feet, sighing in the ascent, through a region of viscid gloom.

Probably just gonna only get a Trystero tattoo though.

I actually have that tattoo on my arm. I got it before Tumblr became famous and everyone was getting it. I was 18 and travelling and I wanted a tattoo, and it was very cheap.
I don't regret a thing but I wouldn't get it again.
Besides it has gotten me laid twice, because girls think that it means I'm deep and I like Vonnegut.

tattoos in general kinda depress me.

I think that tattoos themselves are aesthetically cool. Its just that in my experience people who get them are consistently...i dont know...not very deep. Theres just something about tattoos that screams limited capacity for introspection. Like, just someone who would seem interesting to me at first, but then later on, they turn out to be cracked out or immature or just plain stupid

I feel you. I've always wanted to get tattoos, but the people I've met with tattoos really turn me off from getting them myself. Even people with really great tattoos turn out to be shallow and stupid. But most people are generally shallow and stupid, so I guess it's probably just us building up an idea of these people in our heads and disappointing ourselves in the end.
