This is my bananafish. It was done prison-style with a bottle of India Ink and a safety pin. That's why it's so rough and shitty looking.

I really like having a non-obvious tattoo, although every once in a while someone will come up to me and ask me "what does that say in Japanese?"

I got this same one, only mine's far better than what you've got pictured, because the artist knew how to make a drop-shadow work on a black tattoo. He advised me if he didn't do it, it'd just look black and blobby from a distance--notice how, in the picture you've got, it looks like a crayon drew it. I acknowledge the kid-like graffiti-looking version is closer to the spirit of the book, but personally I'd want something a bit nicer indelibly on my skin.

Unfortunately all I remember is loving the first book, adoring the second, and then growing immensely bored a hundred or so pages into the third then putting it down.

But that's cool that you tattooed something you genuinely enjoy rather than something that might gain you some praise. I'm sure others genuinely enjoy their tattoos, too, but there's always a sense of showmanship involved--which is fine.

I think that tattoos themselves are aesthetically cool. Its just that in my experience people who get them are consistently...i dont know...not very deep. Theres just something about tattoos that screams limited capacity for introspection.
