Can we have a female author thread? My bookshelf is mostly made up of male writers and I need some diversification. I'd love to read what I'm missing out on.

Right now I'm reading this. Next on my list is Sleep's Powers by Jacqueline Risset.

Colleen McCullough is the only answer. Holy hell I wish I'd screencapped the three paragraphs of rant/praise against others and for her work. Anyway, I'll just post the book you should read first.

Ursula K. Le Guin isn't bad either.

Conn Iggulden is actually a pretty good female author, though. Few women are able to write suspense like her. I was actually pleasantly surprised reading her Genghis series.

Wuthering Heights
Jane Eyre
Mrs Dalloway
To the Lighthouse
The Waves
Three Lives
Wide Sargasso Sea
Good Morning, Midnight
The Passion According to G. H.
The Bell Jar
The Lathe of Heaven
Beloved

These are the books written by women I have read so far. Would recommend all of them.

What makes a book written by a female author 'worse'? I actually really enjoy Waldrop's writing. I'm reading for enjoyment and for learning about life through other people's perspective/experiences. What's wrong with wanting to expand your tastes?

I remember trying to find a torrent of it and, failing that, visiting my local public and university libraries. Strangely enough, I couldn't find anything. Though now I am curious: what was that author? So much time has passed (well, only a month or two, but a random /lit/ thread's info across that span eludes me) since then, and I don't quite remember. Maybe I can find it now.

And yes, I am the McCullough/Renault/Anti-Iggulden fanatic.

If they don't take an author's gender into account then why do they feel the need to consciously 'diversify' their reading habits?

I'm not white. There's nothing wrong with wanting to read more female writers because you notice an obvious lack of them in their bookshelf. There is, however, something wrong with not wanting to read them because they're female.

Good to know. I also had trouble finding them when I set out looking (the capital's library system, for instance, had only book by her, 3rd in a series of 6...); eventually I had to import them.

A quick search located a torrent which is - at least reportedly - seeded. If you have "excess" funds Bookdepository may be your best bet for physical books. I hope you'll like them if you do end up getting your hands on them!

You're the kind of impotent loser who claims victories on behalf of his entire gender because you've made none at all in your personal life.

You're a stereotype around these parts and you don't even see it.

I'm not going to automatically love a book more because it's written by a female, just like I wouldn't automatically hate a book for being written by one. I just want to read more books written by them, that's all. Stop trying to twist shit around so that you feel like you're right. You're being an idiot.

>> No.4569454

Wow, are women authors in dire straits?

They must of used all their Twilight and Harry Potter money on shoes and makeup. Dumb whores. Someone should boycott women writers to offset OP's poor economic decision. I would, but I don't read any to begin with.
