First year psych here.
Any good books on Psychology's history and Philosophy's history?
Like something I can use as a reference for further study?

Pic unrelated.

you'll probably cover everything you really need to know in one of your semester courses. if you're super antsy i'd just spend a day on wikipedia. most text books are super redundant.

fwiw, the crux of the field's history can be seen from these four pages:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychoanalytic_theory

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Behaviorism

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cognitive_psychology + http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_psychology

At which point it becomes messy as areas cris-cross and diverge, + the emergence of neuroscience.

How about this: I have 3 friends (girls, if that matters) who graduated 1-2 years ago with psych degrees. Two of them are working as bank tellers and the other is working at the school she graduated at. I don't know what she does eexactly, but it isn't teach anything

Come on man I know psychology is neat and all, but pick a major you can make a career off of and minor in psychology if you really want to study some.

I'm personally minoring in philosophy cuz I'm all over that shit.

I'm majoring in biochemistry as a pre-med school major.

I know, but I actually think organic chemistry is pretty tight after getting into it, and the challenge is... eh. I don't like it, but it's university, no major is going to be that much easier.

Any other passions besides psychology? What subjects did you enjoy in high school?

>Any other passions besides psychology?
There's music, graphic novels, writing, literature.
Mostly the artsy ones.

>What subjects did you enjoy in high school?
I only sat on a corner drawing shit through highschool, then stopped drawing altogether after highschool fro some reason.

If you feel that you really want a career in a psychology field, go for it. It's a lot easier than writing or graphic design, I'm willing to bet. But be prepared to have to work to stand out. Also be prepared for the majority of your classmates to be female (sorry if I incorrectly assumed you are male) - bitches love psychology. Even my 18 year old sister is leaning toward psychology next fall.

And lol yeah my years of high school were similar except I slept in the corner instead of drew... It was a bad time.
