Is there a point in having children?

Is there a logical reason to have them or is it just a selfish act?

It would make it socially acceptable to watch cartoons and see Disney movies in theaters again.

It's just a selfish act, yes. And even if you want to be selfish (no reason not to), it's just stupid anyway. Please don't.

Why is it selfish? Giving all you have to your offspring is hardly selfish. I'm just trying to understand your logic here.

>> No.4491052

yeah people said procreation was pretty much the basic premise for existence. well, with resource shortages that changes. here is why you have children today. so you have something to post about on facebook because otherwise your life is boring and too ordinary for your damned ego.

What the fuck does this have anything to do with literature?

>> No.4491279

People are pretty much forced to have children to maintain societal infrastructure. While rats, pigs, etc., if rational, could afford the decision to stop reproduction, we have created a population-demanding system which people depend on for wellbeing. The integrity of our individuals depends on the societal mechanisms which humanity has created, unlike other species which simply depend on a natural habitat. In order to shirk reproduction, humans would have to agree to disassemble their very livelihood for the 'greater good,' which is severely unlikely and not worth the hassle.

if you don't have kids, you have more free time to read. conversely, if you do have kids, you can expose them to literature and ensure that more people are reading at a slight expense of your reading time.

When you have kids, you are essentially creating more taxpayers who will help run the country when you are dead. So there is no shame is having a ton of kids, if anything you are ensuring the country's future is safe when you do so. Also being a parent is great and most people don't regret it no matter how difficult it is.

If you have happy children who make other people happy, then you're increasing the total amount of happiness in the world, so that's pretty much is ethical.
But isn't it more ethical to donate all the money that you saved by not having children to education in africa?

I see it as a way of passing on the world's problems for those who either don't care, or don't believe themselves to be capable of facing them here and now.

for every time a liberal tells me they're not going to have kids or encourages other people not to, I'm going to impregnate another woman.

>> No.4491360

I would like to have children, but I also love to expend time with myself, and every family I know who have kids suffer from a great decrease in personal private-time. When I came home from work, around 06:15pm I sit down to write and do it until 09:00pm or even 10:00pm. But if you have children forget about it. So: a job + children = forget about writing.

The males of our grandpa’s generation where the wise ones: they keep their wife’s at home taking care of children and were free to go to their jobs, do extra work and even go to bars and parties without them. They had free-sex + private full-time maids on their wife’s, but today you and your girl will have to share your time taking care of children and so your plans are all going to whiter and die.

Let's stop polarizing things with liberal/conservative. It just makes for ignorance on both parts. I don't want kids, I don't see any reason to. But you and every other person has every right to if you want to.

Most people feel a desire to have and rear children. If you don't feel it, you don't feel it.

Points and logic have nothing much to do with it.

I'm somewhere in between. My desire isn't that strong, but I don't fancy being old and alone and having no one who gives a shit about me, so I'll have kids. Of course, they may still not give a shit about me...
