he's compressing a novel's worth of emotions into 140 characters.

such is the trial of an internet poet :)

>> No.4446765

AS AN INTERNET POET IT'S YOUR JOB TO TEXT PEOPLE PICTURES OF THE SUNSET.

BUT BE SURE NOT TO SPELL SUNSET CORRECTLY YOU WOULDN'T WANT PEOPLE TO GET THE WRONG IDEA

he is mimicking/glorifying the stereotyped 'bad internet' way of typing, it's the same sort of high art / low art merger as praising justin bieber, dubstep or crocs. most people would say if you mis-spell things, type things badly, etc, then you aren't a "good poet" or you're "stupid".

steve roggenbuck glorifies low culture as a reaction to the kind of pretentiousness that says if you haven't read XYZ canon books and aren't inside the "artistic community" than your experiences and emotions are illegitimate. I think steve strives for promoting positivity, love, and appreciation for life and views a lot of things associated with "the literary community" (esp its exclusionary nature) as a barrier to that, and I think mis-spellings are part of this.

I like his books more than his videos, they are a lot more serious / literary, his videos are more like a kind of performance art thing, the actually words he says aren't particularly poetic I think.

So does he actually like Justin Bieber or is it his way or saying that it's okay to like Justin Bieber

>>4446767
Yeah, you could put it that way. But people have been saying that about "academia" forever.

Who's side is worth being on? I'd rather be Pynchon than a Beat poet.

...Yes, if you can't spell, that's a pretty big barrier to being involved with the 'literary community'.

regardless, that's what he strives for. I was just trying to explain, from what I understand, what he is going for / why he does what he does.

Actually that's about as shallow as it fucking gets. Sophistication is dealing with the difficult, whether difficult and strange flavors in cuisine or the difficult truth behind life. Novelty-seeking and "positivity" is easy, actual enlightenment is not.
