You fags told me the book of Proverbs was good, I just read 6 chapters of lame verse telling me not to have sex. Does it get better?

>> No.4435551

Have you stopped having sex?

>> No.4435546

No, you've been had. Proverbs sucks, read Job & Ecclesiastes.

Or at the very least, the Song of Solomon, which is lame verse telling you to have lots of sex.

I loved Ecclesiastes, I thought Proverbs would be similar. I'll check out Job

It only mentions sex with women, and I gave up on having sex with them years ago, so yeah I guess.

Seriously, read Ecclesiastes, its one of the greatest things ever written.

>> No.4436226

Wisdom is personified as a good wife in Proverbs, all the "don't fuck whores" parts are a metaphor for reading things like 4chan instead of actual wisdom.

Still sucks though.

>God and Satan teaming up to play games on innocent people
>good

Proverbs as wisdom OP. That and Ecclesiastes are the only things worth reading in The Bible.

Check Zizek's interpretation of the Book of Job. It's not that original (you can find something similar even on wikipedia), but it completely transforms the text from "lel satan let's make bet, fun times" to "God is beyond punishing and/or testing people". I'm not saying it's the right or the "canonical" interpretation, just that it serves that beautiful part of Christianity that doesn't stop at things like divine will or justice-revenge.

He wanted them all for himself.

Job is great precisely because of that, it does not cling to the fiction that God must adhere to our notions of the good and bad. It's one of the only books in the Bible that really faces up to the fact that its God is an all-powerful entity answerable to no one but itself.

>> No.4437253

>>4437102
Except in the Book of Job, God did that stuff to Solomon because of a bet with Satan. God wasn't being unanswerable, he was answering to Satan.

God never makes any "bets" with Satan. Do some reading.

It was absolutely a wager. Satan thought he could cause Job to curse God and God did not.

It's also a good example of how eminently UN-omniscient God is throughout the Pentateuch and Old Testament.
