Tell me a reason why I should read this book?

You shouldn't read it. Read everything else that Plato wrote. The Republic has been modified terribly through time by the christians and muslim copyists. Like that part where he says that poets should be banned when he quotes Homer as the ultimate reference literally in every page of all his works.

The republic is a late work in which he uses Socrates as his own voice and not as the voice of Socrates.

There's no way you can know that.

A basic analysis of the dialogues alongside ancient commentaries of Platonism will show you that the late dialogues present Plato's own and final thinking.

It's a good read, makes some interesting propositions, and is eerily prophetic at parts.

Not a late work. The Laws is a late work, the Republic came before that. It's definitely not one of his early writings either, it's somewhere in between.

It's middle-late, but regardless Plato is using his own voice as he did not in earlier works.
