It's totally plausible to argue that Nick was gay, maybe not gay for gatsby specifically, but gay nonetheless. There is that one scene where he is drunk and in his undies with with that old married guy, forget the name. There is also alot of tension between him and his squeeze, and she leaves basically saying he is not a reliable narrator, probs cuz of gay. Idk, haven't read the books since HS, but I do remember him being a little light in the loafers.
