Sup /lit/?

I have to select a book for my English course and would like to ask help from you guys. The book has to be somewhat easy to read (English is not my native language) and I personally prefer "heavy" books in a sense that they have big philosophical frame or otherwise meaningful plot.

So, any recommendations?

Slaughterhouse-Five

easy to read, pretty heavy, nice and plebby.

Thanks guys. Hemingway's book can't be found at my library though.

I'd like to ask you guys a tips for reading. I'm trying to civilize myself but many times I "don't have time" to read. How much time to you usually spend on riding and do you just force yourself to read? I can understand it's a second nature to some (since they have started when they were kids) but damn it's hard sometimes.

if you don't have much time or your mind wanders a lot, just read for like 10-15 minutes. or space out your reading throughout the day.

I just started reading again recently, but this is what I'm trying to do, and so far it's working. I am studying history, so this might not work as well for fiction, but for nonfiction, this seems great -

- Pick 3 books that interest you but have fairly different topics
- Get a spiral notebook. Copy down the index of each of the three books, each book's index its own page. You don't need names, just numbers will work (as long as you know which is which)
- Try to read everyday. When you are feeling super enthusiastic about a book, keep going! When you are burning out, take a break or read one of the other 2 books.
- Whenever you finish a chapter or section or whatever, cross it off in the notebook. Feel good about it.
- When you finish a book, add a new one to the main three.
- IF YOU ADD A BOOK TO THE QUEUE (of 3) DON'T REMOVE IT TILL IT'S FINISHED

This might sound a bit spergy, but it helps me focus and I find I learn a lot more.

Heh, at least national writers are pretty neat.

I'm honestly really really glad I grew up with English as a first language.

Props on you for learning it at all!

Though, I'd like you to elaborate on what you meant by "plebby" in this context. Just popular or what?
