I never see this discussed here. I just finished Swann's way first book and I enjoyed it, should I really read the whole work? It's 4k pages, I got other books to read.

If you are serious about understanding the work, finish it. It's quite beautiful, and well worth it.

What exactly is there to understand?

Just read Deleuze's essay on Proust and signs if you're looking for a philosophical explanation of In Search of Lost Time.

I recently finished Swann's Way too, were you as mad as I was at the end of part 2 when Swann spends around 300 or so pages torturing himself over Odette then he just decides she isn't the girl for him? That rustled my jimmies a little but it was a good book, very wonderfully written and you can tell Proust put in a fuck tonne of effort into it.

If you are going to start bitching after the first book you're going to have hard time getting through the whole thing.

Pic related to complete the Proust thread.

Most of /lit/ is really not ready for Proust.
