>"There, shuffle off this mortal coil... It's nothing you wouldn't do to us."

What he said to the guy before killing him.

Admit it, you're sympathy for him just went way way up.

Guns and cliches, it's like we're all Americans these days.

That's so cliche that I'm surprised he didn't kill him and say 'it's just been revoked.'

I wouldn't say it increased my sympathy at all, but it did lend the event an interestingly literary feel.

Makes him more interesting, but I'd say it also makes him less sympathetic. I think my brain holds people sufficiently educated to quote Shakespeare while shooting people to a slightly higher standard, maybe. Since I heard that I think I've categorised him as a well-spoken, intelligent bad guy type.

Now, if he'd come up with a Bond-style witty quip, there might be some sympathy.

>Given as evidence to the court martial, video footage showed Sgt Blackman shooting the Afghan prisoner with a 9mm pistol, and saying: “There, shuffle off this mortal coil...It’s nothing you wouldn’t do to us."
>He was probably mimicking the dialogue of an action film.

>probably

Scary to think this generation and subsequent ones were raised by Die Hard movies and Duke Nukem. I'm surprised he didn't say something like "your turban has been terminated," or "Baghdad ass up. Scum."

When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite.

I don't understand how britain expects to be respected when they put men like this in jail.

He killed an enemy combatant and dropped a literary reference at the same time. He should be promoted, not imprisoned.

according to the guardian he said "There you are, shuffle off this mortal coil, you cunt. It's nothing you wouldn't do to us."

"There you are, shuffle off this mortal coil, you cunt. It's nothing you wouldn't do to us."

also in the statement given after the verdict, notice how he says he is sorry for the disgrace he caused the marines, but said nothing about the man he executed.

I think Britain stopped caring about being respected a long time ago. All they can think about is the sweet pleasure of Jamal's cock in their bum.

>> No.4342842

I honestly never understand why anyone is ever surprised or upset that soldiers can enjoy - or at least be unfeeling and remorseless over - killing someone. These are people trained to shoot at others, ordered to shoot at others, and themselves accustomed to being shot at by those same others. It would be inhuman to expect them to go about it with the same lack of emotional investment a bank clerk keeps. And that extends to situations not directly on the field of battle. You can't just flip a switch to business mode when the context changes. People carry these things with them, largely as a way of dealing with what they've done and seen done.
