I've been clinically dead.

It was like a deep sleep without dreaming. None of your "bright light" bullshit.

When you die your brain still works for quite a while, you feel numb and start not to care about your current state. In this state you feel relief and calmness, your understanding of time differs and what is few moments can look like a lengthy period of time. What's after that is left for guessing.

I hope it's just like falling asleep. I want a switch to flip. Maybe I'll writhe in agony before succumbing to my mortal wounds, but I hope that death is a permanent sleep.

I certainly don't want to go to an afterlife. Let my existence pass.

Trying to explain what dying is like is like dancing about architecture.

How's the As I Lay Dying line go?
Life is spent preparing yourself for death. Something like that.
Its nothing to worry about for yourself, even if its painful at first, that'll end in an instant. I would worry for those I leave behind... Unless it does come too quickly for that.

>implying any of us should worry about death

If you're in your twenties and healthy then chances are that by the time you're old synthetic bodies will have been invented. Then all we have to worry about is the threat of an exploding sun a billion years from now.
