Why does /lit/ hate Tao Lin so much? Never read any of his books, but considering reading "Shoplifting from American Apparel".

I enjoy his style, especially in something like Taipei. He's also written a few poems which I kind of like. From his more recent interviews he seems like someone I can relate to.

But don't read his thought catalog or online articles. They will make you hate him.

i'd rather tao lin be the face of asian america rather than horrid trash amy tan

I've only read parts of his work, but it's not that bad.

/lit/ has a love-hate relationship with him.

Read Taipei OP - it's his only really good book.

With 4chan, it's usually all or nothing. I just think he's okay, neither the worst writer ever nor the brilliant voice of our generation.

I don't think /lit/ hates his work; here I've seen many times people seemingly honestly recommending him as one of leading young american writers.

They just dislike his persona and the way he has self-promoted himself and is a cunt.
