I'm writing a persuasive speech on why everyone should appreciate the genius and design of everyday objects and tools. Does anyone have any good ideas on what I could use as an attention grabbing introduction?

Really? I thought it would be quite interesting to do. I guess not. Do you have any ideas for what else I should write a persuasive speech on?

Smash the speaker's podium to pieces with a wrench and frying pan and then when you're all sweaty and your hands are bleeding pick up the microphone from its broken gnarled stand, slick your hair back, start to walk around the stage, and say "Today, I'm going to teach you how to see tools in a whole new light" while still catching your breath

Sounds like something I'd only read if it was a 1 page article on a magazine.
