When you guys read something like Ulysses do you reread and look up things you don't understand or focus more on the prose and except that you won't understand all of it?

i look up words i don't know but on a first read of something really difficult i don't try to understand everything. i just try to get a feel for everything and then i can come back another time.

I've never read Ulysses but I usually read for the prose. I get the gist of a sentence then I don't need to look up a specific word I don't understand.
