There's nothing really wrong with that unless you're into literature, they're both entertaining writers.

I don't really see the problem with this. Neither of these authors are trying to be artistic; they didn't set out with the objective of appealing to an artistic community. They're commercial authors, I'm sure if you asked them, they would completely agree with you: their goal is to tell a story and make money from said story. Prose, imagery, etc, comes second to plot, unlike literary fiction, as you well know, which is the converse. They are very good at what they do; the same can be said for Dan Brown. No matter how shit the writing, they achieve their goal of providing entertainment. They don't set out to write literature, so why do we sit around here pretending they do?

Pic semi-related: You insist on confusing an art form with something completely different.

Fuckin' A

>> No.4270355

I experience an internal struggle every time a girl I like tells me her favourites authors are people like Coelho, Chbosky, Rowling, Collins, etc. My immediate reflex is to make a Bloom face and turn 360 degrees, but then I remember that I don't want to be that guy and do my best to suppress it. It's something that plays on my mind a lot more than it should do, and the amount of time I spend on /lit/ probably has something to do with that. Anyway, since I met my girlfriend 6 or so months ago I've introduced her to stuff like Rhys, Rilke, Aira, Munro, and even Wallace, so everything worked out for the best. A girl with a casual interest in reading is far more likely to take your suggestions and enjoy them than a girl who shuns reading altogether.
