What's the stuff I should have read before I dive into Zizeks work?

Also where do you begin? He wrote like a million books.

>> No.4210484

Just do some lines of coke.

No books are really necessary before Žiž.

You don't.

Zizek's books are like stage props for his zany character act. Why the fuck would you read them?

a vocal portion of /lit/ doesn't like zizek because he has to audacity to be fairly well known.

>> No.4210543

Hegel, Lacan, Kant, Marx

You don't necessarily have to read their stuff, but have a decent understanding of their major ideas.

>> No.4210564

just read them in order of release, he explains the authors he references quite well

Don't you mean Althusser?

Why the fuck would you not want to know the thoughts of pretty much the only philosopher who has any effect on public opinion these days? It's not that hard to imagine.

>> No.4211096

In order to read Zizek read State and Revolution while madturbating to trap cat girls. Then read some Kristeva.

>> No.4211139

Jumping off this, besides Zizek is there any living philosopher worth looking at? All I can think of at the moment is Kripke but he just seems to play around with Wittgenstein's language games.

Philosophy as a matter of public interest has really gone off the radar. I try to keep up with the times and Zizek is the only visible philosopher out there. Where the fuck are they all hiding now?

the public deserves him

I actually picked up From a Logical Point of View yesterday. How imperative is it that I know formal logic? I have no background in it (yet). I want to take a class on it hopefully next semester.

not very, if you're reading kripke. some of quine's stuff can get just a little technical, but kripke is more metaphysics than straight-up logic. but yeah he basically built a semantics for modal logic.

Cool I can handle that then. Thanks!

This is probably the best place to start on his theoretical work. If you're not up to the challenge and just want to read his more popular work, I'd recommend First as Tragedy, Then as Farce or maybe Living in the End Times.

Really, though, you should go to Sublime Object of Ideology first if you can.
