Because Russian is a beautifully complex language. Because of how the case and conjugation system works you can make beautiful poetry from simple words and syntax, and invoke very deep meanings by just choosing particular conjugations.

It's actually not TOO hard, it's just a huge bitch coming straight from english, which has no gender system, extremely limited conjugation, and two cases, compared to russians 3 (technically 4) gender, and 6 case conjugation, with prefixes and suffixes errywhere.

Which sounds like a lot but it's honestly not much worse than say, Latin.

I learned some, but decided to focus on my stronger languages before splitting attention.

Rosetta Stone and Pimsleur for pronunciation, listening, and basic syntax (Pimsleur will be more helpful for the latter).
Memrise.com for vocabulary and idiomatic phrases.
Find a grammar book somewhere to study the cases.

God willing somebody uses the Duolingo Incubator to make a Russian program.
