so I picked up a copy of this for 50 cents, just out of curiosity. I have heard about it from cartoons and the joke that it is too long.

but is it worth it? is it difficult?

i just want to say "ABSOLUTELY NOTHING"

The original title was supposed to be War: What is it Good For?

Not difficult, but long. It's excellent, though. When, in the second half, the narration gets bogged in essays on the nature of history and freedom, one can be forgiven for skimming or skipping back to the characters, though the essays are interesting and relevant to the story.

tl;dr excellent and long... read it!

Yes, that' true. In fact, that's where Edwin Starr, a huge Tolstoy fan, got his inspiration for his song 'War'.

>> No.4182936

It's long but good. Also, there's a sense of superiority when you know you have read this and the other shitstain dregs of the human species have not which is why they need to be rounded up in FEMA camps and fucking executed.

this, except don't skip anything.

Don't be a bitch. The book has them for a reason. If you don't read into the historiography, it will just appear as a long-winded story about Russian families and how they enjoy marrying and dying.

1. You spelled that wrong
2. Historiography is extremely relevant to Tolstoy's thesis, please leave if you have not read the aforementioned text.

It's good. Try not to plough through it though. Remember to backtrack if things seem to pop out of nowhere.

Speaking of Russian families, do you know any good books about Ukrainians?

>> No.4185188

Long but good kinda like a big black cock.

Anyway, I haven't finished yet, I'm on Part Three. Its one of my slowly but surely to read books. Suprisingly its a good exercise on retaining themes and characters.

How's the signet classics edition? I read the recent Vintage edition in December and it took me three weeks, I enjoyed it though, I plan on re-reading it again this December and making that my new tradition.
