OH SHIT. I saw this on the front page of 4chan and can vaguely remember the book in the OP from when I was like 4 or some shit. I remember always wanting to have my parents read it to me, but for some reason they didnt like it and always had an "ehhhh okay" attitude about doing it, while they never hesitated to read something like Curious George or Dr. Seuss

Love that book. Plus my favorite babysitter ever gave me a copy as a gift and wrote a dedication for me in the front leaf that still makes me tear up to this day.

I liked Branwen, the Traw and the Shapeshifter too but the illustrations in that used to scare me deeply for some reason.
