Why do you guys love Stirner and hate Rand?

>> No.4107963

less self important

>> No.4107967

Because Stirner is obscure and nihilistic--traits that the pretentious NEET people of /lit/ adore. Rand on the other hand is well known and moralistic--traits that NEET people dislike. It's that simple, really.

Stirner isn't objectivist.

But they have the same view on "morality" - self-interest always trumps it.

There isn't morality for Stirner. If you've actually read him, rather than parroting what you've read here, you'd know that.

Massive oversimplification incoming, but too put it most concisely
Stirner
>People follow ideologies too dogmatically and make them into something more than ideas; you should just be yourself
Rand
>Don't live for anyone besides yourself, but also follow everything I have to say dogmatically
I mean Rand didn't actually say that (the second part), but that's the effect she's achieved. So it's pretty easy to see why they can be at odds with each other, or rather their fans

I've read him. I'm unsure if he has a morality, but he definitely isn't a nihilist. If anything, he's closer to an existentialist with the idea of the creative nothing (which is similar to the idea of existence before essence). The ego on its own is so obscure in some parts it's hard to say with accuracy what stirner was thinking.

From what I can understand, 'owness' refers to being in control of oneself and not letting concepts or ideologies control you. Stirner's selfishness seems to be a different type from Rands.

This. Rand could've just written The Fountainhead and be cool about it. But she had to make a philosophy about it. She just had to.

Stirner is the Death Grips of literature. Rand is more like Korn.

The average Stirner follower on /lit/.
