I just finished reading the Harry Potter series. A little behind other people I am sure, since it concluded 6 years ago.

I actually got the first one when it came out and read up to book #4. I ended up moving though and my books were put in storage. Just last month I decided to read them all again and borrowed the rest from the library.

These were actually the first books I have read in about 4 years. I got addicted just from reading the first one again.

I would have to say it's tied in first place as my favorite series with Lord of the Rings.

The last books I read before Harry Potter were...

- Brave New World. High rated book but I did not enjoy it at all.

- Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? Another highly rated book but I found it totally boring.

- Misery. Pretty good book, it did kept my attention.

Before that, I mainly just read when I was young in school.

Thanks

Name of the Wind and it's sequel are pretty in line with that. The protagonist is a love him or hate him thing, though Earthsea is also excellent and relatively short for epic fantasy.

I also read some Dick (valis) and found it more drugs than prose.

If you just want another currently popular series of young adult/adult books, read A Song of Ice and Fire so you can form your own opinion on whether you think the series is good or not.

If you want a more serious book, The Count of Monte Cristo.

Which HP book was your favourite?

It baffles me that adults enjoy this tripe.

When did the weight of the world break you like a drunken father breaks hymens? It's sad that the only enjoyment literati can get is from reading existential torture-porn.

I'm just going to go back to reading some Agota Kristof and follow it up with paranormal erotica because I can enjoy many things.

thanks for that.

I always hear of comparisons between 1984 and Brave New World. I am not sure if I would like 1984?

I read Lord of the Flies when I was very young, still remember that one.

1. Prisoner of Azkaban
2. Half Blood Prince
3. Deathly Hallows

If you read my original post you may have missed that these are the first books I have read in four years. I really do not read a lot.

Thus I came to the literature forum to see if someone who also enjoyed Harry Potter can set me on the right path for a new book.

It seems like you just want to insult me though. Shame I cannot block you in anyway, but an insulting reply may gave you away so I won't respond.

OP, your next step is reading Dune, then you'll get fascinated by the philosophy in it and through a bunch of other steps you'll become the usual /lit/izen making Nietzsche threads daily.
At least, that's how I like to imagine it.

I was I could enjoy bad literature, but alas. Such is the burden I must carry.

Ender's Game

Fun, easy read. Kinda the Harry Potter of SF, but better.
