How do I write a good "informative" essay?
I have to write an essay on a book I read this summer and I chose Albert Camus - The Stranger.

When I was in high school, I would just imagine the Plinkett voice in my head from the Star Wars reviews. It helped me write down my thoughts. I would do an informal, semi-stream-of-consciousness draft, go back, organize it, then tone it up to include formal language, slap an intro and conclusion on it, and then hand it in. I was a straight-A student.

Do you guys not have anything against high schoolers/underage?

I wish more of 4chan had this attitude. I don't think people realise that as the internet grows, more underage are going to end up on this site. Half of /v/ is underage yet they claim not to be.

I'm currently 17 and taking Higher English in my secondary school. Do you think it's a good idea to do a Persuasive essay on 'Should Britain Be Acting like World Police?'. My English teacher is really unhelpful. She goes straight away, 'My initial answer would be no so you're going to need to work on that.'

But that's what the rule is for. Anyone stupid enough to openly admit they are breaking a rule should be banned.

I'm only admitting it to prove a point. How am I any different to those who are 'allowed' to be on this site? I really don't see the difference between me and an 18 year old apart from they've now passed this 'line'.

>> No.4085272

>>4084972
No, it's not too pleb at all. I'd think that doing The Stranger would be very appropriate. Don't write about a book to come across as highbrow, there is a lot you can discuss and do well in The Stranger.

>> No.4085277

>>4085259
Everyone is allowed on the site so long as they have common sense, which you seem to lack. The difference between someone who is allowed to be on the site, and someone who isn't, is the difference.

Admitting doesn't help prove your 'point,' it ruins it. Should we ask the hungry how much food the comfortable should donate?

Obviously, didn't you read the OP post.
>>4085251
of course /v/ is full of underage people.
/vg/ is the only decent video game board
>>4085259
It's part of the 4chan rules that you can't be under 18 so you probably shouldn't go around saying that you are 17. Just don't openly admit it like >>4085252 said

Don't write one, and then say something like 'the concept of persuasion is absurd,' or 'there's no point to writing an essay.'

I've never admitted my age before. I saw this thread and decided like this was a good place to ask for help. I thought I might as well be honest instead of making up some excuse like, 'I'm 18 but I'm still in secondary school'.

The over 18 thing is to keep out unwanted and stupid underage bans like you. There's a reason it still exists.

>> No.4085302

>>4085297
Yep, always found this ironic. People spout the underage thing like it's the law, well... it is, but you know what I mean.

Anyway, to all the underagefriends here, /lit/ probably isn't the best place to ask these kind of questions. There is a website called google, which you may have heard of, and it could help you quite a bit.

>> No.4085303

The replies in this thread are sad.

OP. Find something that resonated with you about the book. What stuck out to you personally? Were you even really and authentically interested in it?

Maybe Meursault or the conversation with the priest in the end. Lots of people have written on the opening sentence and its implications based on how it is translated.

You can go a lot of places with this depending on how open the prompt is and whether or not you have a decent teacher.
